OUR COMMITMENT

We are passionately committed to working hand in hand with partners and the community to end HIV in New Zealand.  Our mission is to prevent the spread of HIV and support people living with HIV, their friends and whanau. By staying safe, testing often and treating early we can stop HIV in its tracks.

The new Ending HIV campaign has an ambitious goal of no new transmissions of HIV in New Zealand by 2025. We know this is a bold ambition, but we believe it is achievable if everyone comes on board. We invite community, government, doctors, educators, family, friends and whanau to commit to the vision of a world without HIV.

We will tirelessly work to deliver Ending HIV so that it is effective, inclusive and responds to the communities’ changing needs and feedback.

OUR STRATEGY

NZAF’s commitment to ending HIV is the foundation of our 2016 – 2019 Strategic Plan. Our strategic goals are to increase primary prevention, increase testing and treatment, and support people living with HIV, their friends and whanau.

The strategy commits us to a number of specific, tangible goals that will be delivered largely through the Ending HIV campaign. Key among them are:

  • 80% of men who have sex with men (MSM) report condom use for casual sex
  • 80% of MSM report condom use at first anal sex, including among Maori and other ethnic groups
  • The role of PrEP in HIV prevention is understood by MSM and appropriate pathways exist for uptake among those who need it most
  • Testing volumes includes, and 80% of those who are tested are from the communities most affected by HIV

ABOUT US

Ending HIV is brought to you by the New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF), New Zealand’s national HIV prevention and health services organisation. We acknowledge the support and partnership of the AIDS Council of New South Wales (ACON) in sharing the Ending HIV Campaign identity and concept with us. It was originally developed by ACON in collaboration with Frost* Design and launched in February 2013 at the Sydney Mardi Gras festival.

The work of NZAF includes HIV prevention and community engagement, testing and health services, science and advocacy. This work is funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Health through trusts and grant-making bodies and through donations from individuals and businesses.

NZAF is a registered charity that grew out of gay community initiatives in the 1980s and today it brings history, passion, commitment, expertise and diversity to meet the emerging trends of the HIV epidemic and the changing needs of the communities it serves.
