Kiwis Love Gay Porn!

Last week, Pornhub released its statistical insights into the masturbatory viewing habits of Aotearoa. It seems like straight guys are, predictably, largely fetishising lesbians – no surprises there.

What we did find intriguing was the regions looking at the most gay porn and, in true clickbait style, the results may shock you!

We’re as surprised as you to find out that Auckland only ranks third in the regions watching the most gay porn. Plus, we’re more than a little proud that we’re not far below the worldwide average page views for gay Pornhub content.

With an impressive 36% more pageviews than the rest of the country, Gisborne either has some very dedicated gay or bi guys with plenty of data, or has a higher concentration of queer folk than people might have first thought. Well done!

The Tasman region comes in second, just edging out ahead of Tāmaki Makaurau!

There’s no risk of HIV or STIs in watching porn, but just remember if you base your first sexual experience as a young Gisborne gay on what you’re watching on Pornhub – there are a few key things to remember.

  • A lot of porn is bareback but it’s likely that your partners or hook-ups in your area are not being tested for HIV and other STIs at the same rate as your favourite pornstars. Keep condoms in the mix with casual partners as they’re a great way to prevent the transmission of HIV and STIs
  • If you struggle with condom use with casual partners, it would be a good idea to chat to your doctor about PrEP. In some of the regions above we’re trying to encourage more doctors to learn about PrEP – if you aren’t comfortable talking to your usually GP about PrEP, let us know and we’ll try and connect you with a GP that does – check out our PrEP Prescribing Doctors Map

On the whole, New Zealand is mostly wanking at their desktops/laptops and we’re pretty hesitant to watch porn on our smartphones. While nearly 80% of the world has moved to their phones, only 22% of Kiwis are willing to sacrifice the bigger screen.

Endurance-wise, Gisborne came out on top again - with an average Pornhub session length of 11 minutes and 16 seconds. Whereas, people in Otago finished 31 seconds earlier - maybe due to all the students, who have to share dorms, getting interrupted.

Whether you’re sitting at your office desk, using your smartphone one-handed or logging out 31 seconds early, remember that – while porn is great – it’s not real life. Though that may be disappointing for every power-bottom who’s been in a yoga class with a hot instructor – it means there are some things to keep in mind in the real world.

Firstly, consent is key! Consent is a conversation and needs to keep going throughout your encounters.

Secondly, prevention is a big part of a healthy sex-life. Keep condoms and lube as a staple, get on PrEP if you need to, and make sure you learn about U=U.
