Ending HIV

Ending HIV

As a community-based organisation, our volunteers are an extremely important part of almost everything that we do. We love to see new faces and are hugely appreciative of the way the community supports the work that we do.

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for our community to unite for our brothers, lovers and friends at high risk of HIV, and for our whānau who are living with HIV. So we're inviting you to don a sash, grab a bucket and take to the streets for the 2018 World AIDS Day Street Appeal!

Let's work together to make this year's street appeal the biggest yet! Any amount of time you can spare on the day would make a big difference - the more people we have pounding the pavements and rattling buckets, the more money we can raise.

This year the World AIDS Day Street appeal is taking place in the following cities:

AUCKLAND: Wednesday the 28th of November & Thursday the 29th of November
WELLINGTON: Friday the 30th of November
CHRISTCHURCH: Friday the 30th of November

Each year, Ending HIV distributes around 750,000 free condom and lube packs around New Zealand. This is a vital part of our work, as it ensures guys all over Aotearoa have easy access to protection! Few people realise that they are hand-packed by volunteers every week in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. On an average condom-packing night we might have 20-30 volunteers in each city and they’ll pack between 3,000 and 5,000 condom and lube packs over a couple of hours.

Condom packing night is not just about helping your community. It’s also a great way to meet new people. It’s always a great night, with drinks, nibbles and lots of great conversation!

Usual times are:

Auckland (31 Hargreaves St) Wednesdays from 4pm to 7pm
Wellington (187 Willis St) Wednesdays from 5pm to 7pm Fridays from 1pm to 3pm
Christchurch (185 Peterborough St) Once a month on Wednesdays

We are looking for volunteers from all corners of the community to consult with on the development of our Ending HIV resources, videos, and campaigns. We are keen to hear the community's perspective, so if you would like to be contacted when we are working on projects that are relevant to you, please fill in the form below. Please note that by submitting the form you consent to be contacted by NZAF and our representatives.

We are grateful for the generosity of countless volunteers to help us make positive change in our communities. Whether they support us through packing some of the 700,000 free condoms that are distributed to help keep our community safe, helping us share our messages with our community at events such as the Ending HIV Big Gay Out and Pride Parades across the country, or fundraising for us on World AIDS Day, our community is stronger with their support.

Sign up below to join our community of volunteers!

You can also join our volunteer Facebook groups to be kept in the loop for a range of volunteering opportunities - AucklandWellington and Christchurch.
